A family business: the company was founded in 1940 by Dr.Grifols i Roig founds Grifols (Laboratories) together with his sons.

Interesting facts on the timeline starts as soon as 1943 when "The first single donor lyophilized plasma in Europe and the first penicillin in Spain are produced." In 1945 the first private blood bank is opened in Spain and in 2006 the company Grifols is listed on the Spanish Stock exchange.

There are three divisions:

Bioscience Division. Specializes in the research, development, production and commercialization of high quality plasma derivates. Grifols' original product line.
Diagnostic Division. Focuses on researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing diagnostics products for laboratory analysis, including products for Hospital Blood Banks and Transfusion Centers.
Hospital Division. Provides a wide range of non-biological products used in hospital pharmacies, surgery, nutritional support, fluid therapy and for other therapeutic uses.

Interesting about the annual report is its design, simple but the statistical and financial figures are represented with test-tubes stressing the laboratorial business.

In 2007 Grifols recorded total revenue of 703 million euros and total profit of 87.8 million euros.
We have a low level of debt (net financial debt is 1.9 times EBITDA), which gives us a comfortable margin for carrying out the next stage of our business expansion plan. (An ambitious, 400 million euro investment plan to fund its growth in the next five years, which it began implementing in 2008)

Serta Perfect Sleeper – The Best Innerspring Mattress?

[ad_1]

Despite the recent increase in popularity of air, latex, gel and memory foam, the innerspring mattress remains the number one choice for most and the Serta Perfect Sleeper is one of the market's best sellers. But, is it the best mattress of its type, or would you best be advised to look elsewhere?

Serta remains one of the giants of the industry. The company describes its sleep products as being America's Favorite Mattress. While this may not be entirely true, there's no doubting that each year the company manufacturers and sells more mattresses than just about everyone else. However, high sales do not necessarily mean high quality. Other manufacturers like, Jamison, King Koil, Kingsdown the massive Sealy Company will tell you that their products are the best. So, what to believe?

First, let's take a look at what you get when you buy a Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress. Coil count is an important consideration in an innerspring mattress. Most of the company's mattresses come with 532 coils in queen size. This may sound like a high count but other, cheaper brands like King Koil come with around the same number of coils (King Koil also has 532 coils in queen size – the more expensive Kingsdown mattress comes with an impressive 832 coils).

But it's in not that simple. In addition, you need to pay attention to coil configuration; its gauge, number of turns and how the coils are placed in the frame. The Perfect Sleeper does well in this department. The coils are made of high-tempered steel with high gauges and sufficient turns to ensure that the mattress will give many years of service. The coils are also zoned; there are five zones that give extra support where it's needed and more give elsewhere.

After the coils you need to compare top and bottom upholstery as wells as the quilting. The bottom layer is composed of a fire-retardant blend of natural and synthetic materials. The top layers are dependent on the type of mattress. The Firm comes with 1 "of high-density foam and 1" of comfort foam. (Plush comes with 2 "of comfort foam, the Pillow with a further layer of 1 3/8" zoned convoluted foam, with the Euro-Top coming with a top layer of memory foam).

The mattress quilt is called Advanced Comfort Quilt by Serta. Basically, it consists of rolling peaks of convoluted foam and fluffy fibers. While the quilting is good, I believe the quilting found in other manufacturers, like Stearns & Foster and Kingsdown to be superior, though you will pay extra for these brands.

The Serta Perfect Sleeper is definitely one of the best mattresses on the market (if you prefer innerspring). There are many configurations available, the main being Firm, Plush, Pillowtop and Euro-Top. Unfortunately, these come in a confusing array of names like Sandpiper, Nightstar Wendover Ashwood, Misty Midnight – the list goes on and on. By keeping in mind the more salient points like coils, foundation layers and the type of mattress you can cut through the 'confusion' and choose the mattress that will work best for you.

The Importance Of Being Professional

[ad_1]

If you want to be successful, you will have to get used to being a professional. How you look, talk, write, act and work determines whether you are a professional or an amateur.

Let me give you an example.

Two different sales men ring your door bell, the first one is wearing shorts, a scruffy untucked shirt, a baseball cap backwards, unshaven and nervous, with an old pair of sandals on and no paperwork … would you buy anything off him? Take the sales man that is dressed sharp, in a suit and tie, hair neat, clean shaven, faint smell of fresh aftershave, a little neat briefcase with all paper work in order .. I'm guessing you would be more inclined to buy off the second salesman then the first .. WHY? Because of his appearance.

As a professional, you need to take responsibility for yourself and your work. Here are the basics to create a professional manner.

– Be courteous and have good manners

– Be punctual, get into the habit of being on time

– Keep confidential details confidential

– Do what needs to be done, do not leave it for others to do

– Listen to others

– Apologise for any errors or misunderstandings

-Speak Clearly and in language others can easily understand

– Be honest – avoid even the smallest of lies at all costs

– Do what you say. If you commit to something, then follow through with it

– When communicating, ensure you have made yourself clear to avoid any misunderstandings.

– Be reliable and dependable

– Demonstrate self-control and avoid public arguments and disagreements

Essentially, being professional is about seeing beyond your immediate needs. By thinking about the long term perceptions of you and your business, rather than a quick euro or score, you are much more likely to behave professionally.

Visiting Vienna? The Top 5 Tourist Traps – And Alternatives!

[ad_1]

Everyone knows that as soon as a perfectly rational human being goes on holiday, they lose all common sense and end up buying trinkets and knick-knacks at astronomically priced souvenir shops. You've probably also visited a tourist mecca and heard all about can't-miss shows and sights – only to shell out a wad of money and leave sorely disappointed. Vienna is no different. However, I'm here to help you steer clear of vacation letdowns and find Vienna highlights.

Tourist Trap # 1: The Lipizzaner Horse Shows

The Spanish Riding School was founded in 1572, making it the oldest and most prestigious in the world. With beautiful Baroque architecture nestled within the Hofburg palace, the architecture alone is worth visit – not to mention the majestic Lipizzan horses. However, before you pay up to 173 euros for the performance (do not bother with a cheap or standing ticket – all you'll see are people's heads and a few white specks pirouetting about), why not watch their morning training? You'll see the horses up close and personal (12 euros) or add a guided tour of the stables with a combo ticket (26 euros).

Tourist Trap # 2: Grinzing – or any other restaurants with tour buses in the parking lot

You'll want to try authentic Viennese cuisine while visiting Vienna, and there's no better place than a traditional Heurige (wine tavern / restaurant). One main Viennese attraction is Grinzing, a collection of Heurige in the vineyards overlooking Vienna. Instead of jostling past hordes of Japanese tourists , you'll be much happier venturing just outside Vienna to Heurige frequented by locals. There are great Heurige in Austria's Weinviertel (Wine Quarter) in Stammersdorf and Hagenbrunn or in the picturesque town of Perchtoldsdorf to the south. All of these villages are within easy reach of Vienna.

Tourist Trap # 3: Hotel Sacher

While in Vienna, one must try the world-famous Sachertorte. This world famous dessert consists of two layers of chocolate cake separated by a layer of apricot jam in the middle and covered in a dark chocolate glaze. Now, Hotel Sacher holds the right to the "Original Sachertorte," which makes it the most expensive, but definitely not the best. While Cafe Sacher, located directly across from the State Opera House, offers a sumptous atmosphere, if it's a really good Sachertorte you're after, then I'd personally recommend L. Heiner, located at Wollzeile 9 or Tirolerhof in the city center.

Tourist Trap # 4: Cafe Central

Cafe Central was one of Vienna's most venerable coffee houses. Intellectuals and authors such as Peter Altenberg, Theodor Herzl, Egon Friedell, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Anton Kuh, Vladimir Lenin, Adolf Loos and Leon Trotsky would meet here to discuss politics, philosophy, economics and the like. With such famous patrons, long history and a beautiful atmosphere, it's no wonder that every tourist guide recommends it. However, all of this is slightly deceiving. The real Cafe Central was located in another part of the building, the Palais Ferstel, and closed at the end of WWII. Although you'll see these celebrities of old beaming at you from informative signs around the cafe, they never actually sat at your table. In addition, there's really nothing special about this cafe. The architecture's pretty, but the food / drinks are mediocre and in my opinion not worth the inflated prices. If you want a to visit a Viennese coffee house, try Cafe Prückel or Cafe Hawelka, where they have fresh Buchteln, sweet yeast dough dumplings with jam fillings. Under no circumstances should you choose a Starbuck's and thereby pass up the opportunity to experience the unique personality of each Viennese coffee house.

Tourist Trap # 5: Any souvenir shop in Vienna's 1st district – the city center

I know, I know – you're in Vienna, one of Europe's most beautiful cities. You've traveled around, seen the sights, had a fantastic time and want a keepsake to remind you of your stay here. However, before you decide to purchase a Klimt poster for 50 euros (there are some great poster / print shops in Vienna), why not reflect on a) whether you really need it and b) if you're wasting hard-earned money on a real piece of Austrian culture, probably manufactured cheaply in China. My advice: do not even bother walking into a souvenir shop in the city center – there's nothing you need there and it's not worth the price. So, before you take that snow globe to the cash register, try out some of the following places for some unique Viennese keepsakes:

Museumsquartier Gift Shop: out-of-the ordinary memorabilia, cool, but not necessarily inexpensive
Naschmarkt: why not take home some Austrian specialties like schnapps or pumpkinseed oil?
Antique shops: there are fantastic finds hiding just beyond the city center – especially in districts 4, 6, and 7.

The Scooter Jacket Alternative

[ad_1]

The introduction of the motorized scooter by the Italian company Vespa in the 1960s gave birth to a scooter sub culture that reached across Europe, the UK and on to the States. Scooters could be seen taking over the streets and were especially prevalent in the hip, artsy communities within Paris and London, and as far reaching as San Francisco.

The scooter culture was best exemplified in Quadrophenia by the Who, released in 1979. The rock opera tells the story of the mod revolution in the UK, the gang wars that erupted in the 1960s between the Rockers and the Mods, and the emergence of the scooter culture with all the lifestyle and fashion statements that came with it.

The scooter jacket as a direct spin off of the scooter culture is best defined by its Euro Style collar, a strip of material encircling the neck and fastening shut with a snap. Jackets can be made from the traditional leather or from synthetic or natural fabrics as fashion dictates.

In 1985, Vespa abandoned the US market in favor of Europe, and as gas prices continued their painful rise, the European communities and the UK adopted the scooter as a cheaper form of transportation, while Americans indulged their love of SUVs.

Re entering the US market in 2000, Vespa expected to cater to a new generation of hungry college students and twenty somethings looking for a cheap mode of transportation. What they found was a much more well to do market in the nostalgic Baby Boomers, reliving their younger days of bright and shiny scooters and motor bikes in general.

With the latest gas price hike of 2008, and increasing concern over the environment, middle class Americans are selling their SUVs and looking for alternative modes of transportation, and once again the scooter is thriving. Scooters are being seen more and more in urban environments, as people from all walks of life find a cheaper, more fun way to commute. Following the scooter movement is the reemergence of the leather scooter jacket, as scooterists realize the need for body protection against the weather and the road.

Todays modern scooter jackets offer an alternative to the traditional biker look. Scooter jackets come in a variety of materials, but just as in any type of bike riding, care should be given to protection from the elements and the road. For that reason, the scooter jacket that is made from a quality leather material is considered to be an integral part of scooter safety gear, recommended to be worn with a full face protective helmet.

As the scooter culture merges with the mainstream, not everybody considering a scooter for transportation is your typical Mod, Rocker, or Biker type personality. One estimate has as many as 40% of new scooter purchases being made by women. Scooterists of today span generations and coexist with a multitude of lifestyles. Scooter clubs, rallies, websites and forums are popping up all over the place, even scooter racing has taken afoot.

As an alternative to the traditional biker look, the scooter jacket exudes a respectable, conservative style that has become the signature of scooter culture, and popular with people from all walks of life.

Campione D'Italia – The Italian Tax Haven in Switzerland

[ad_1]

With all the fuss going on about Swiss banking right now, many people might have overlooked the fact that you can simply move to Switzerland and live virtually tax-free, legally, and without being subject to notoriously strict Swiss immigration controls. How? Through the Italian tax haven enclave of Campione d'Italia – a little part of Italy, with some very special personal tax concessions, that functions like a part of Swiss territory.

"So Campione is an interesting option for anyone who wants a tax haven residence, but does not want to spend the twenty times more that Monaco would cost … It is similar to Andorra taxwise, but warmer, and more conveniently located. It is a short drive to Austria, Liechtenstein, Germany or France, "says a veteran resident of Campione we interviewed for this article, a retired lawyer who has practised in both the USA and Switzerland.

"For a non-Italian who lives in Campione, the income tax is essentially, ZERO. There is no property tax if property is held in personal name. There is a very low property tax otherwise."

It is therefore well worth considring Campione residence if you are attracted by the relatively mild climate of the Lake Lugano area of Switzerland, jokingly referred to by locals as 'Switzerland's Banana Belt.'

Residents of Campione benefit from super efficient Swiss postal and phone service, as well Swiss health coverage and Swiss broadband internet. You also get Swiss license plates for your car, but you avoid the disadvantages of Swiss taxes and the lengendary Swiss military service duties.

Campione d'Italia is a small Italian commune of 1.7 square kilometres located entirely within Switzerland, on the eastern shore of Lake Lugano at the foot of a beautiful mountain. There are approximately 3,000 inhabitants, about 1,000 of them foreigners. The official currency is the Swiss Franc, but the Euro is accepted as well. All banking is done through Swiss banks. A famous Casino generates substantial revenue, which is one of the reasons why the residents of Campione enjoy some very special tax concessions.

Campione's tax advantages only apply to private persons resident in Campione, and not to companies domiciled or managed from there (except that there is no VAT in Campione, which is naturally is a big advantage for companies).

How can you obtain a residence permit in Campione? You must normally buy an apartment or a house – simply because there is very rarely the opportunity to rent. Once in a while, a good luxury rental deal comes up.

The Distinctive Aspects of Leonardo Da Vinci's Work or His Inventions

[ad_1]

Leonardo da Vinci (15 April, 1452 – 2 May, 1519) was an Italian Resurgence man: inventor, painter, engineer, musician, sculptor, mathematician, architect, cartographer, anatomist, geologist, writer, and botanist. His genius, possibly more than any other, exemplified the Renaissance humanist epitome. He often was labeled as the prime example of the Resurgence man, a person of "unquenchable inquisitiveness" as well as "enthusiastically inventive mind". He is widely regarded as one of the best painters and maybe the most distinctly talented person to ever have lived. According to Helen Gardner an art historian, the depth and scope of his likings were without practice and "his personality and mind seemed superhuman, the man himself remote and mysterious". In addition, it is claimed that despite the various assumptions about Da Vinci, his world vision was basically logical rather than enigmatic, and that the experiential methods he engaged in were rare during his time.

Da Vinci was born out of marriage to a lawyer, and a laborer woman, Caterina, in Vinci within the Florence region, Leonardo got his education in a studio of the well-known Florentine painter Verrocchio. Most of his early working life was done in Milan with the guidance of Ludovico IL Moro. He later on went to work in Bologna, Venice and Rome, and spent his remaining years in France.

Leonardo is, and was well-known mainly as a painter. Amongst his works, included the Mona Lisa painting of which is the most well-known and most imitated painting, as well as The Last Supper of which is the most religiously reproduced painting ever, with their prominence coming close to only Michelangelo's Adam Creation. Da Vinci's painting of the Man of Vitruvian is also considered as a cultural icon that has been reproduced on several items such as textbooks, the euro coin, and T-shirts. There are about fifteen of Leonardo's paintings that have survived because of his continuous, and regularly catastrophic, experimentations with new methods, and his prolonged postponement. However, several of these works as well as his notebooks, which contained scientific diagrams, drawings, and his views on the method of painting, influenced artists of later generations matched by only that of his existing, Michelangelo.

Da Vinci is admired for his technological inventiveness. He conceptualized a tank, flying machines, concentrated solar power, the double hull, and the calculator; he also outlined the theory of rudimentary plate tectonics. Comparatively few of his designs were made during his lifetime, but several of his smaller inventions, like the automated bobbin winder as well as the testing machine for the stretchable wire strength, entered the manufacturing world unheralded. Leonardo made significant discoveries in civil engineering, anatomy, optics, as well as hydrodynamics, but failed to publish any of his findings of which had no direct impact on later science.

In conclusion, Leonardo Da Vinci, although he made tireless efforts in teaching himself and becoming knowledgeable in natural sciences, languages, philosophy, history, and mathematics, as a mere listing of the comprehensive contents of his library reveals, he stayed an empiricist of pictorial observation. But then again – thanks to his brilliance – he established his own "theory of knowledge," distinctive in its nature, whereby science and art form a synthesis. In the overall face of Leonardo Da Vinci's achievements of creative brilliance, the question of how much he completed or did not complete becomes meaningless. The heart of the matter is his intellectual force – independent and characteristic in every one of his creations. This force has stayed constantly operational to the present day.

Forex Trading – What It's All About

[ad_1]

Forex trading (also known as Forex, or FX) is a term that describes the practice of trading between different currencies across the world. It is unlike trading on the stock market in that the interaction takes place directly between the two parties doing the trading. This practice is dubbed the OTC market (Over The Counter).

When currency is traded, it is always between two different currencies, which produces what is known as a cross. The cross consists of the currency being traded and the currency it is being exchanged for (for example: the euro / US dollar is a cross, as is a Japanese Yen / Us Dollar, etc). Within the Forex market, the most volume is in the spot market, named as such because trades are settled "on the spot" (though technically, this means two banking days).

When currencies are traded, they are usually sold only when the broker expects the currency it is being bought for to increase in value relative to the currency being sold. Once the currency being purchased does increase in value, the only way to obtain profit is to sell back the other currency being traded. When only one half of the deal has been done it is referred to as an open position, meaning a specific currency cross has been brought or sold but the trader has not yet sold or bought back the other end of the deal required to "close" the trade.

Interestingly, much of Forex trading is speculative, meaning the party trading the currency does not ever take delivery of the actual currency. The trading, therefore, was based on the speculation of price shifts of that currency.

Forex trading has many advantages. For one, it can be traded 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. It is also such a large market and so liquid that there are always available buyers and sellers. Because of its liquidity, Forex trading tends to be stable in its pricing.

Forex is usually traded without commission, which broadens its appeal. Higher leverage is allowed with Forex, which means large trades can be conducted with minimal actual investments, creating potential for large profits. And speaking of profits, another big appeal of Forex trading is that it can be profitable even in failing markets, as currency is constantly changing and shifting, with each shift equating to a potential for a profitable trade.

Rollover Days – Essential Information For Any Trader

[ad_1]

Rollover is when we switch from trading the contract that expires in the current month, to a contract that expires in a future month. Rollover for futures trading can occur each month, and / or quarterly.

With all of the different exchanges available to trade off these days (CME, NYMEX, EUREX), it is easy to get confused when trying to determine when contract rollover will actually occur. In this article I will share with you the rollover dates for some of the most popular futures products that I trade ranging from all asset classes, as well as some of the common signs to look for that you might be trading in the wrong contract month.

For starters, some of my favorite index futures to trade are the e-mini's, which trade on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The e-mini's that I trade are the S & P, Dow, Russell, and Nasdaq. All four of these indexes also expire at the same times throughout the year, which is quarterly:

oThe contract expiration months occur in March, June, September, and December.

The important part to remember for all of you e-mini traders out there is that the rollover day itself occurs 8 days before expiration on the second Thursday of each contract month. You can trade up until the 3rd Friday of the contract month, but traders are usually in the process of trading the next contract month 8 days prior to that.

I also enjoy trading currency futures, like the Euro, Pound and Yen, which also trade on the CME. These currency futures have contract rollover months of March, June, September and December. The last trading during each expiring contract month is at 9:16 am Central Time (CT) on the second business day immediately preceding the third Wednesday of the contract month (usually Monday).

Some of my favorite commodity futures, which trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange, include Gold and Light Sweet Crude Oil.

oThe contract expiration occurs month to month.

When trading the Gold Futures, it is important to remember that rollover occurs each month, instead of every quarter like the e-mini contracts. So, if you trade Gold or are interested in trading Gold in the future, it is important to set yourself a reminder to check the next month's contracts. This reminder can be set on anything from your cell phone to a desk calendar, as long as it is convenient for you. When marking your calendar, you will want to remember that trading will terminate on the current contract month on the third to last business day of that current contract month.

The Crude Oil market is slightly different; they also rollover on a month to month basis, but on a different day during the month than Gold. The last trading day available for the current contract month is going to be the third business day before the 25th of that month. If for some reason the 25th is not a business day, count back three days from the next business day preceding the 25th. For example if the 25th fell on a Sunday, you would count back three days from Monday, which means trading would cease on Wednesday for the current month's contract.

Other commodity futures such as Wheat, Corn and Soybeans (which also trade on the CME) also have different rollover days. If you are trading any of these commodities, you will want to rollover to the next contract month on the business day prior to the 15th of the current contract month.

oThese commodity futures have expiration months of: March, May, July, September and December.

Lastly, one of my favorite exchanges to trade off of is the Eurex, especially because they offer one of my favorite markets to trade, the Dax Futures. Not only do I enjoy trading the Dax, because of its large tick value, but I also find the DJ Eurostoxx 50 very interesting as well. The last trading day or settlement day for these Eurex products is going to be the third Friday of each maturity month, if this is an exchange day, otherwise immediately proceeding that day. Trading will end on that last trading day once the start of the Xetra intraday auction begins at 13:00 CET (Central European Time). For the DJ Eurostoxx 50, the last trading day is still on the third Friday of the contract maturity month, but the close of trading on the last trading day occurs at 12:00 CET.

oThe contract expiration months occur in March, June, September and December.

One last point I would like to make is, what is the easiest way to spot when a contract has switched to the next maturity month? Well what I find works best is to use some sort of market analyzer and compare the trading volume on the current contract month VS the trading volume on the next maturing contract. A great example was during the month of July, we saw that Crude Oil was getting close to its contract rollover date for its August contracts. So, that week we kept a keen eye on the volume of the September contracts VS the August contracts to make sure we would know when traders had started trading the September contracts. Sure enough, on July 20, 2009 we noticed that volume was actually higher on the September contract then it was in August! So just as a friendly reminder, always be paying attention to the volume traded during the contract month, especially during contract rollover week !!
